Abstract
The following study briefly analyzes the representational manner for some famous American deaths in Romania during communist decades. It discusses what a movie or music star meant in that period, and then presents obituaries of Marilyn Monroe or Elvis Presley from Romanian journals and magazines, with their particular, sometimes even peculiar features. Finally, the article looks upon the manner of explaining the notorious death of American celebrities, emphasizing the political content.
